A few weeks ago Dan Sinker was bored. As with most of us his first idea was to create a fake twitter account to impersonate New York gubernatorial candidate Rahm Emmanuel. What else should we expect from an assistant journalism professor at Columbia College? Sinker originally started the account to make some close friends laugh, but in no time @MayorEmmanuel had 39,000 followers. Time to come clean? Not a chance. The professor began to weave a story about the future mayor along with his imaginary friends including Hambone the dog and Quaxelrod the duck. Sinker played on Emmanuel’s storied anger issues and began an epic story.

Dan Sinker finally came clean about the ruse. He won an interview on the Colbert Report with Stephen Colbert and even met Rahm Emmanuel himself, who turned out to be a good sport about it all. Of course like all good stories it has come to an end… or has it?
