I recently stumbled upon the website http://no-www.org/. It is a website entirely devoted to the convincing the masses to put an end to the www prefix on domain names. I do not understand the technical reasons, so I assume the creators of this website are just to lazy to type three extra characters. For this reason I have decided to side with http://www.www.extra-www.org/. Here is their exact stance:
“Together we, the people of the Internet, must fight to save our most beloved Internet prefix, ‘www’. Yes, despite the years of humble and gracious service that these three simple letters have given us, there are those among us who wish to remove them from the WORLD WIDE WEB entirely. To save ‘www’, we must not only refuse to remove our ‘www’s, but add extra ‘www’s to serve as a symbol that we will not be intimidated.
In the end it all seems a bit ridiculous. It is probably outdated as well because I can type domains without any wwws into my url bar and the site will still appear. I suppose that means http://no-www.org/ won the fight?
