I get a ton of business owners who have physical businesses asking how to get traffic online to their website. Though there are many ways to generate traffic that every business owner should be utilizing, Google local is the easiest and fastest first step. And the best part is…It’s FREE.

Go Here to Get Started

Have you ever done a search in Google for something locally and in the search results the first thing you see is a map and a bunch of balloons followed by business listings? (like the picture above) This is Google local and you can be in those listings within the next 24hours… Sweeeet!

What’s really cool about local results is that they show up first, above the top organic results.

There is no doubt that everything is online now…it’s the first place people look to find what they need…phonebook?…what the heck is that……fooonneeeeebooook??

Remember Google loves content. The more content that you put in your profile the better, also be sure to update it often. They even have an awesome coupon feature that allows you to create special coupons for your online visitors…um, awesome. Add pictures, videos, and tons of keywords!!

Keywords are words related to your business and/or service and the words that people use to find you. If you are a peanut butter and jelly sandwich maker, you’ll want all the words that are involved in your sandwich making process as well as surrounding words. Be your consumer…what would you enter into Google or any other search engine to find yourself? (not you personally, your business..lol)

Go do a little keyword research and figure-out what keywords you need to target. Don’t pick the highest searched or the least searched, pick words that are right in the middle and get creative with your combinations.

Here’s a Free Tool To Do Your Keyword Research

*Note: Always keep your keywords in mind while filling out every field in your profile…especially “description” this will help your ranking dramatically.

Remember how I said that Google loves fresh content? A really simple way to create some video for your business without a video camera, green screens, video editing and soundtracks…in fact without ever stepping in front of a video camera entirely! I use this service: Animoto It literally takes seconds. They have a paid service which enables you to create longer videos, but the free version lets you create as many 30 second vids as you want. All you need are some pictures to get started, actually you don’t even need those…they’ll provide them or you could just search for some online related to your business and/or service.

Create these videos and add them into your Google local profile. Also, it might be a good idea to start a YouTube account as well and upload your videos there too. If you do this, don’t forget to place your web address in the description of each of your videos uploaded. The way you do this is by placing http:// in front of your url and it will automatically create a hyperlink when it goes live.

Google and Wal-Mart are taking over the world, but Google’s products are all free and that beats a “rollback” all day long!

Until next time, word is bond.
