Autoresponders are the best possible way to automate communication with a large amount of contacts. Obviously it is important that your autoresponder series is relevant to everyone you are sending it to but there is another, lesser observed factor that may affect their effectiveness without you even realizing it: time. The majority of people create an autoresponder series, then never look at it again. Unfortunately, it is very easy for autoresponder messages to be come outdated, and irrelevant. If this happens, your contacts will most likely begin ignoring your emails.
The Fix
Your first step is in the writing process.
• Try to avoid time sensitive details.
• Include sustainable facts that will never change over time
• Be generic. You want to relate to as many subscribers as possible, if not all of them.
Your second step is a simple one. Subscribe to all your autoresponder lists. When you receive an email from yourself, spend some time reading and thinking about it. If the content is no longer relevant due to time or unforeseen circumstances you will know it is time for a change.
